The K Goes On

Korean dramas have been taking the entertainment scene by storm in the past couple of years. With the broad array of genres that Korean telenovelas have to offer that range from heart-wrenching tearjerkers, mind-boggling mysteries, or thrillers, to kilig-worthy romances, you are sure to find something that is right up your alley. Throughout the past year, much new Korean drama series arrived at the scene, many of them making it into the mainstream. For your next binge-watching session or maybe a contender as the little “reward” for yourself in between long study periods, here are a few of the top 2022 Korean dramas that are surely worth your while and you might want to add to your watchlist (if you haven’t already)! 


Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Genre: Courtroom drama, romance, comedy
This drama follows the story of Woo Young Woo (played by Park Eun Bin), a genius young lawyer diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Though Attorney Woo has been dubbed as a genius since she was young and even more so after she graduated as a top-notch law student and the class summa cum laude from the most prestigious university in Seoul, her lack of social skills and empathy has been forerunning as the distinguishable qualities she bears. Each episode is sure to keep you interested as Attorney Woo tries to navigate her way into the world as she starts working as a trainee at one of the top law firms in the city while also having to endure prejudice and indifferences around her. 


Little Women
Genre: Mystery, family drama
The story is centered on the life of three sisters born into an underprivileged family, Oh In Joo (played by Kim Go Eun), Oh In Kyung (played by Nam Ji Hyun), and Oh In Hye (played by Park Ji Hu) as they try to get by after being involved in a case involving the most elite influential family in South Korea. With such great distance in privileges and power, will they be able to reign victorious in such a fight?


Business Proposal 
Genre: Romantic comedy
Shin Ha Ri (played by Kim Se Jeong) is an employee at a popular food production company, struggling with some finances. So, when her best friend Jin Young Seo (played by Seol In Ah), asked if she could pretend to be her on a blind date set up by Young Seo’s dad in exchange for some cash, Ha-Ri agreed. What Ha Ri doesn’t know, she was actually going on a date with Kang Tae Moo (played by Ahn Hyo Seop), the new CEO of the company she is working at. When her boss gave her a call the following day after their date, asking for her hand in marriage, it became apparent that Ha Ri’s got more than what she’s bargained for.


Twenty-Five Twenty-One
Genre: Coming-of-age, Romance 
This is a story of two teens during the South Korean financial crisis that brought chaos to many people’s livelihoods. Na Hee Do (played by Kim Tae Ri) is an athlete for her high school’s fencing team, which unfortunately got disbanded due to budget cuts. Meanwhile, Baek Yi Jin (played by Nam Joo Hyuk), a wealthy high schooler, suddenly got his comfortable life flipped around when his father’s business became bankrupt. When their paths cross amidst their respective dilemmas, what will fate have in store for them? 


Alchemy of Souls
Genre: Fantasy, action, romance
In a fictional country called Daeho, the nobleman Jang Uk (played by Lee Jae Wook) and elite warrior Nak Su (played by Go Yoon Jung) who is currently trapped in the body of Mu Deok (played by Jung So Min) happens to meet. When Mu-Deok becomes Jang-Uk’s servant, they form a bond and they traverse through the difficulties of their twisted fates in such a dimension where exists dark magic, mages, and great secrets.
