SNAMS Faculty Reap Awards in 15th MDCON Research Congress

Equipped with excellence and honor, the SNAMS faculty seized three awards in the 15th Manila Doctors College of Nursing Research Congress (MDCON) with the theme “Nurses Together: Transforming Global Health by Achieving Sustainable Development Goals through Nursing Research,” held at Manila Tytana Colleges, Pasay City on November 29, 2023.

Bagging the 1st place for the Best Paper Award was Asst. Prof. Noriel P. Calaguas’ study entitled “Generating HIV/AIDS nursing competencies: A Delphi Approach,” aimed to fill a gap in the care continuum for people living with, and at risk for HIV/AIDS, by developing specialist nurses. Asst. Prof. Calaguas also won the Best Oral Presentation (Professional Category) for the study “Improving Cultural Sensitivity to Deaf and Hard of Hearing People: A Qualitative Program Assessment,” a paper presenting the evaluation and experiences of nurses trained in Filipino Sign Language to cater to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people’s sexual and reproductive health needs. This study was a USAID-funded project led by the Philippine Society of SRH Nurses where Asst. Prof. Calaguas is a trustee.

Asst. Prof. Denmark D. Gabriel, the current Nursing Chairperson, won 3rd Place in Best Paper with the study “Development and Validation of a Blueprint for Clinical Teaching in Undergraduate Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing,” which presents the development of a course blueprint, content validity and reliability tested, for clinical teaching in MHPN through the Analysis-Design-Development-Implementation-Evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model. According to Asst. Prof. Gabriel, the topic was conceptualized to provide an instructional framework for both in-person and distance learning modalities.

The study “Trait Emotional Intelligence and Adversity Quotient as Predictors to Work Motivation of Nurse Academic Manager,” by Dr. Carlo Bryan C. Borrico was also presented in the congress, together with the study “Testing the Psychometric Properties of the Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing Instrument (TCCNI) among Filipino Nursing Students,” of Asst. Prof. Louiegi L. Garcia, who won in last year’s MDCON.

The Manila Doctors College of Nursing Research Congress (MDCON) is held annually by Manila Tytana Colleges in partnership with Manila Doctors Hospital to serve as an avenue for scholars, researchers, educators, professionals, and leaders locally and internationally to showcase their studies, while upholding the promotion of nursing research excellence and providing opportunities for research development.
